Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 31, 2026. Saywand was previously called Bar Wand; this policy replaces the Bar Wand policy.
Who we are
Saywand is a macOS application developed and operated by LEGROS ENTERPRISE LTD PTY (Australia), trading as Swiftful Dynamics. Saywand turns prompts into hotkeyed shortcuts and dictation you can use in any text field on macOS.
Summary
- We don't run servers that store your app data, and there are no Saywand accounts.
- Your shortcuts and settings are stored locally on your Mac.
- API keys are stored in your macOS Keychain.
- Text you choose to process is sent only to the AI provider you select, under that provider's terms, or stays on your Mac with Apple Intelligence or Ollama.
- The app doesn't include analytics, tracking or advertising.
Information the app processes
Stored on your Mac
- Shortcut definitions (names, prompts, hotkeys, input method, tags), provider choices and preferences, stored with standard macOS storage.
- API keys you enter, stored in your macOS Keychain. They are never sent to us.
When you run a shortcut
Saywand sends only what's needed to the provider you chose for that shortcut:
- Your input text: the text you selected, or the text transcribed from your dictation.
- The shortcut's prompt and the selected model name.
- Your API key for that provider, sent only to that provider over an encrypted (TLS) connection.
Processing happens on your Mac (Apple Intelligence, or a local model through Ollama) or with the third-party provider. Saywand doesn't proxy or keep this content. Supported providers include Apple Intelligence, OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, Perplexity, xAI Grok and local models through Ollama. Each provider's privacy policy governs how it handles your data.
Reading your selection
To get the text you selected, Saywand first asks macOS for it through the Accessibility API. If an app doesn't support that, Saywand copies the selection to the clipboard and reads it from there. The result may also be pasted back through the clipboard. Saywand doesn't keep or send clipboard contents anywhere except to your chosen provider as described above.
Model list updates
When it launches, Saywand downloads an up-to-date list of AI models from saywand.com. This request contains no personal information or content, but our hosting provider (Vercel) receives standard request details such as your IP address and the time of the request.
macOS permissions we ask for
- Accessibility: to read and replace the text you select and to type results back when you run a shortcut.
- Microphone: only while you use a dictation shortcut. Saywand doesn't listen in the background.
- Speech Recognition: to turn your dictation into text, only during a dictation session.
- Paste from other apps: macOS may ask whether Saywand can read clipboard content copied from other apps, which it uses to read your selection as described above.
You can change any of these at any time in System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security.
Website
This website is hosted on Vercel, which may log standard request details (such as IP address, browser user agent and time) to operate and secure the service. The website doesn't use advertising trackers. If you email us, we use what you send only to respond to you.
Legal bases
Where laws such as the GDPR apply, we rely on (i) performing our contract with you, by providing the features you request, and (ii) your consent when you connect a third-party provider or start dictation.
Sharing
We share data only with the AI provider you choose for a shortcut, and only as needed to get a result. We don't sell data or share it with advertisers.
Security
API keys are kept in the Keychain and sent only to your chosen provider over TLS. We follow platform best practices for local storage and permissions, but no method of storage or transmission is completely secure.
Keeping and deleting your data
- Data on your Mac stays there until you delete it or uninstall Saywand.
- You can remove API keys at any time by deleting the provider in Saywand, or in Keychain Access.
- Content sent to third-party providers is subject to their retention policies. Contact the provider to request deletion from their systems.
Removing your data, step by step
- In Saywand, delete your shortcuts and providers.
- Open Keychain Access and delete any remaining Saywand API keys.
- Uninstall the app. For data sent to a third-party provider, contact that provider.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict processing of your personal data. Because Saywand has no accounts or content servers, most requests concern data on your own Mac, which you control, or data held by your chosen provider, which you can ask that provider about. Contact us if you need help.
International transfers
If you use an online provider, your input may be processed in the regions where that provider operates. See the provider's documentation and privacy policy for details.
Children
Saywand is intended for people aged 16 and over. If you're under 16, you may use it only with the consent and supervision of a parent or guardian where the law allows.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the product or the law changes. We'll update the effective date above and publish the latest version here.
