Saywand

Support

Answers to common questions, and how to reach us.

Getting started

  1. Open Saywand from your menu bar and follow the welcome steps.
  2. On the Permissions step, allow Accessibility so Saywand can read and replace your selection. Allow Microphone and Speech Recognition if you want dictation.
  3. Add a provider. Apple Intelligence and Ollama work without a key; for others, paste your API key.
  4. Select some text in any app and press ⌃⌥Space.

Troubleshooting

Shortcuts don't replace my text

Check that Saywand is turned on in System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Accessibility. If it's already on but still not working, remove it from the list with the minus button, then turn it on again from Saywand's Help screen.

The quick menu doesn't open

Make sure no shortcut uses the same hotkey as the quick menu, and that the hotkey includes ⌘, ⌃ or ⌥. You can change it in Saywand ▸ Help.

macOS asks about pasting from other apps

Choose Allow. Saywand reads your selection through the clipboard in apps that don't share it directly.

A model stopped working

Providers retire models from time to time. Saywand updates its model list automatically and moves you to a replacement where it can. You can also pick a different model, or type any model ID, in Settings ▸ Providers.

Frequently asked questions

Is Saywand free?

Yes. There's no subscription, no account and no ads. If you use a paid provider like Claude or OpenAI, that provider bills you for its API directly. Apple Intelligence and Ollama cost nothing.

Do I need an API key?

Not to get started. Apple Intelligence runs on your Mac and Ollama runs locally, so neither needs a key. To use Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, Perplexity or Grok, add your own key from that provider.

Does Saywand see my text?

No. Saywand has no servers. Your text goes straight from your Mac to the provider you chose, or never leaves your Mac with Apple Intelligence or Ollama.

Which Macs does it run on?

Saywand needs macOS 15.6 or later. Apple Intelligence needs macOS 26 on a Mac that supports it, with Apple Intelligence turned on. Every other provider works on any supported Mac.

Why does it ask for Accessibility access?

macOS requires it for any app that reads the text you select and types the result back. Saywand only uses it when you run a shortcut, and you can turn it off any time in System Settings.

Can I change the hotkeys?

Yes. Every shortcut can have its own hotkey, and you can change the quick-menu hotkey (⌃⌥Space by default) in Settings.
